The UNSPSC has four levels, this levels has an own code, and its technical names are:1) Segment
2) Family
3) Class
4) Commodity
The code is easy, we have eight different number, we divide it in groups of two, so the two fist numbers show us the number of segment, (and if the rest are zeros, it is the code of a segment), the following two numbers indicate us the family, next two class, and the two last numbers are the commodity level (fourth level)
Let´s see it schematic:
12000000: Segment
12150000: Family
12151400: Class
12151405: Commodity
So if we see an UNSPSC number with six zeros, we know it is a segment, if is has four zeros at the end, it would be a family, two zeros class, and finally if there is not two zeros together it is a commodity, the most basic level of the schema.
Some examples:
10000000: Live Plant and Animal Material and Accessories and Supplies (Segment)
49170000: Gymnastics and boxing equipment (Family)
23152200: Manufacturing tables and stands (Class)
10121804: Dry food for cats (commodity)
27112030: Billhook
